Andrew Cholakian - Photography

Thought Process:
I have an incremental approach to photography. I start rough, and start refining. With portraits I believe honesty and communication are key, I let models know what does and doesn't work in plain terms. I beleive in being supportive, and letting the subject know the exact goal, guiding the subject as close to it as possible, abandoning concepts when necessary. With my still lifes, the same approach applies, usual a single aspect of a photo starts an evolutionary process.

Technical Notes:
All photos are shot with either Canon digital cameras or vintage 35mm or 120mm film cameras. My process is pretty simple, I retouch any sensor dust or blemishes with the clone stamp or heal tool, then do color correction with curves+blend modes in L*A*B then RGB. Some photos, like the photo of RCA Jacks use elaborate masks, but these photos are in the minority. The vast majority of these photos were lit with a combination of a single Canon 550EX flash unit and natural light.
